Extech Redefines Temperature Monitoring with Credit-Card-Sized, Disposable Dataloggers

Extech is excited to announce the launch of the THD5 compact, one-time-use USB datalogger which is small enough to be used in small shipping packages yet robust enough for extended use in cold-chain warehouses. The credit-card-sized temperature logger offers users a wide temperature range and the high accuracy you’d expect from Extech temperature instruments.

“Extech has become synonymous with reliable and accurate environmental monitoring and datalogging instruments for temperature, humidity, CO, CO2 and much more. We are excited to expand our family of tools beyond handheld meters and table-top monitors. Now, Extech temperature monitoring can travel with your products,” says Mike Fox, General Manager at Extech Instruments.

Fox explains, “Food manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, medical device makers, florists, and now even subscription meal delivery services rely on their ground and air shipping partners to ensure uniform temperatures with temperature-controlled transportation solutions. These companies may use constellation of resources including cold shipping, temperature-validated vehicles, thermal blankets for pallets and more. Our new THD5 dataloggers are so small, they can be used not only for large, cold-chain cargo shipping but also for small refrigerated shipments such as sensitive pharmaceuticals that are frequently handled by popular express shipping companies.”

About the Extech THD5

Approximately the size of a credit card, the THD5 USB Temperature Datalogger is easy to configure and can be used to monitor temperature-sensitive shipping of food, pharmaceuticals, and perishables such as flowers. With a temperature range from -22 to 158°F (-30 to 70°C), the THD5 can also be used for unrefrigerated storage, general air-conditioned facilities such as server rooms, as well as high temperature manufacturing.

Reliable measurements are recorded by the THD5 with ±0.9°F (0.5°C) accuracy and at one of 7 interval options ranging from once every 30 seconds to once every 2 hours. Configuring the THD5 is easy to do and allows the user to set a start delay and alarm delay. Alarm high and low thresholds can be tailored to a user’s unique needs. Controls include a Start/Stop button and a Mark button to record up to 8 bookmarked locations in the data log for easy reference at a later time. Extended monitoring is possible with a long-life battery and data storage up to 8,192 records. Equipped with a sealed plastic bag, the THD5 can be used as a waterproof device (IP65) when sealed in its bag.

To view recorded data, no error-prone file import or data-mapping is required. Instead, the THD5 automatically generates a PDF report with data readings and a trending graph. Immediate PDF access ensures easy-to-share findings for managers or customers. The THD5 instant report makes it particularly useful for shipping studies to identify temperature deviations or to qualify a shipping lane, a particular container, vehicle or packaging (both materials and designs).  These single use, disposable dataloggers come individually bagged in a 10 pack, ideal for proof of an uninterrupted series of storage and distribution events during transportation of goods.
