Hello - One of the most common issues that I come across in the field when working with RHT10 and TH10 customers is that the USB Drivers are not getting installed.
There are 2 parts to installing the dataloggers. First, load the software program for the logger by going through the Setup.EXE on the supplied CD that comes with the unit.
Usually on most systems this will come up and autorun once the CD is inserted into the CD ROM/DVD Drive. Proceed through the on screen instructions until the setup is complete. This will load up the application that allows you to program, download and view all of your data.
Next, load the Silabs USB Driver. This is where most people run into problems because Windows OS's operate differently and this is not always installed automatically so you may have to manually point it to the driver in some cases.
To check to see if this driver is installed, make sure the RHT10/TH10 is installed into your USB port and go into your Device Manager. This can be accessed by going through Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware and then Device Manager.
If you see an Unknown Device with yellow exclamation point or question mark in the Device Manager then you know that the driver is not installed. Right Click. Select Update Driver. Make sure the CD is in the CD ROM and choose to Browse to Location.
Instead of browsing to the complete path, delete what is in the path and just type in your CD ROM Letter (Example: E:\) and hit next.
Now it will find it and you should be on your way!
Check the Device Manager and the last category on the list should be USB I/O Controlled Devices and the sub category will be the Silabs C8051F320 USB Board. This is your RHT10/TH10 and it is now completely installed and ready to use!
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Dave Andrews on January 29, 2012 at 2:19pm I did say it was issues with 5 XP SYSTEMS . Well 4 and 1 worked
success with 1 of 5 is not what I would call a success, but it worked.
@vatche. the problem is the software/drivers end off. I tried both platforms in modes for other OS and it just not working and on the system it DOES work, there is no real reason for it (obvious anyway).
I paid £50 for the unit so not that bothered and I cannot believe I am the only person with this issue and will check back on occassion here. I dont think i will bother until it REALLY gets to me as it could add hours to the loads already trying to make this software work. I know there will be no easy fix as it hasn not been fixed already and can see ME having to do all the work.. It is not my job to do that i paid for a working unit, and kind off have it. If there were other options of unit believe me I would have returned it ages ago....... but there is not so unless 'support' can fix it, it is ok.
I might give them a call but i will bet that it will not be free phone call !!!!!!!
@eric if you still have trouble post on here as i still get nitifications and might be able to help you myself (i will certainly try and it will not cost anything )
;) Dave
Try running them in other os modes (silabs should have told you that, it didnt work for me but you never know. Can you access another xp system (a friends maybe) just to see if one works, at least you might see how the product is when it does work and will then be able to see if it is worth keeping with the greif....
Let me know how you get on. Feel free to DM but if we keep the convo here then at least Vatche can see if there is any progress. I certainly have not given up..
Permalink Reply by Eric Goertz on January 30, 2012 at 1:50pm Ok, so I dug through my closet and pulled out an older HP machine with XP SP2. It has not been connected to the internet (or a power source!) in about four years. I booted it up (Norton AV was freaking out), and I copied the file information I downloaded from the Extech website RHT10 V5.6 to this computer. I decided I did not want to connect it to the internet and have Windows take over and ruin my chances.
Within 5 minutes I had the RHT10 software loaded, I then manually selected the driver location to the "Driver USBBulk" file, and PRESTO!!!!! It loaded the RHT10 and it all works. I am now running a 1000 point data test in my office to see if it continues to work.
Thanks Vatche and Dave for your help! I am going to try to install on another XP machine in my office today. I will report back what happens.
Permalink Reply by Eric Goertz on January 30, 2012 at 2:07pm Ok, that was quick. I did the same thing on my HP office computer that I use everyday. This is an HP computer running XP and it is as up to date with Windows as they get.
Followed the same routine and POW!!! It all worked! I am running another test to try out the RHT10.
At this point I would say the sole problem is that this device is NOT compatible with Vista or Windows 7. Given that computer interoperability is akin to brain surgery, I can understand why these things happen. Yet, as a consumer it really sucks and erodes confidence in companies like Extech.
I am glad that I studied mechanical engineering and not computer science!
Good Luck ALL!
Permalink Reply by Dave Andrews on January 30, 2012 at 2:36pm excellent but as i said I had 4 other machines running xp that didnt work, but def not happy on win7. not 'solely' a win7 and vista problem but yes mainly.
glad its not just me. Silabs for the record said that the drivers they supply WILL work with win7. I am not going mad after all.
great that its working now though.
(ps the win7 fault and the other xp fault are identical, for me anyway)
Is it supported on OSX?

I'm sorry to hear that you are having trouble with the RHT10. Someone from the tech support team will get back to you as soon as possible! In the interim, definitely look at some of the other posts here on this forum, I hope we can get you up and running as quickly as possible.
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by John Douglas Poole on March 13, 2012 at 9:30am Greetings all,
I likewise have the same issues reported extensively by Dave Andrews, with both my RHT50 and RHT10s, using a relatively new Dell notebook computer running Windows 7 Professional and with all the latest USB drivers and Extech software versions installed.
Basically, I need to disconnect/reconnect either datalogger about 2-4 times (on average) to get the software to respond properly, regardless of whether I'm downloading data or resetting the dataloggers. I'm convinced the problem is not with the dataloggers themselves, but with the USB drivers and their ability to sense signals on the bus or trap interrupts.
Anyway, sometime back, I bought a Targus Ultra Mini-USB 2.0 4-port hub (model ACH74US -- costs about US$40), which has a small flexible wire that goes into the USB port on my notebook. I do this to save the USB ports on my notebook from taking the abuse of disconnecting/reconnecting the dataloggers. Since the hub is relatively cheap, I don't worry too much about it taking that abuse.
I totally agree with Dave Andrews that these dataloggers are pure joy to work with otherwise, when they connect properly with the software. But the need to fiddle with them to get the connections straightened out can be a bit of a pain. Hope this comment and my suggestion of using a simple, cheap USB hub to reduce wear on notebook/PC USB ports is helpful to anyone out there experiencing these same issues.

Permalink Reply by Dave Andrews on March 13, 2012 at 2:04pm Thank you indeed for supporting my issue. I have been conversing with support regarding this and I STILL have had no luck with win7 and use a xp pro dell solely for use with the little buggers !. agree totally with the in-out-in-out method but havent tried more than twice to be fair as they have had more use than they should have for a 3 month old pc. I have resigned myself to never having them work on my win 7 systems regardless of what support say. Having to delete registry details every time it does not install properly is just ....stupid and I really cant be bothered to in-out-in-out so xp is the way for me. on some win7 systems the average in-out-in-out was over 20.
If anyone does find a fix for this PLEASE let me know first ....
Apart from the fact that they dont work properly in win 7 they are fantastic BTW and recommended (XP)
Permalink Reply by John Douglas Poole on March 13, 2012 at 2:25pm No problem, Dave. Hope it's of some consolation to you that at least some else has been dealing with this, too! :-) Though I must admit, I've never had to disconnect/reconnect that many times; only a few times. Sometimes, it even works on the first try. But usually not! ~John
