Hello - One of the most common issues that I come across in the field when working with RHT10 and TH10 customers is that the USB Drivers are not getting installed.
There are 2 parts to installing the dataloggers. First, load the software program for the logger by going through the Setup.EXE on the supplied CD that comes with the unit.
Usually on most systems this will come up and autorun once the CD is inserted into the CD ROM/DVD Drive. Proceed through the on screen instructions until the setup is complete. This will load up the application that allows you to program, download and view all of your data.
Next, load the Silabs USB Driver. This is where most people run into problems because Windows OS's operate differently and this is not always installed automatically so you may have to manually point it to the driver in some cases.
To check to see if this driver is installed, make sure the RHT10/TH10 is installed into your USB port and go into your Device Manager. This can be accessed by going through Start>Control Panel>System>Hardware and then Device Manager.
If you see an Unknown Device with yellow exclamation point or question mark in the Device Manager then you know that the driver is not installed. Right Click. Select Update Driver. Make sure the CD is in the CD ROM and choose to Browse to Location.
Instead of browsing to the complete path, delete what is in the path and just type in your CD ROM Letter (Example: E:\) and hit next.
Now it will find it and you should be on your way!
Check the Device Manager and the last category on the list should be USB I/O Controlled Devices and the sub category will be the Silabs C8051F320 USB Board. This is your RHT10/TH10 and it is now completely installed and ready to use!
Thanks!

I have just purchased some dataloggers and a new laptop to run them. It has the latest Windows 7 os system - home/premium. I am unable to get the drivers you have on your web site to work at all and have tried everything to sort it out to no avail. One of the messages is that the drivers are not supported on this platform etc and it also will say that the system thinks the drivers are the latest ones. But still no luck. Any ideas? A friend said that it may be I need to upgrade to windows 7 professional but your Australian distributor does not agree and i don't want to spend an additional $200 unless I KNOW it will work. Your assistance is appreciated.

Permalink Reply by Mike Oster on September 7, 2011 at 8:19am Hello - We now have Windows 7 32 Bit and 64 Bit compatibility for most RHT10 Dataloggers. Follow these steps below to update:
1. Uninstall the version that you currently have loaded onto your system.
2. Go to our website and download the latest version of the software, RHT10 V5.6, from the following link:
http://www.extech.com/instruments/software.asp
3. Once you have this downloaded you can run the Setup.Exe and follow the instructions of the command prompts to complete the install.
4. Plug in your RHT10 to the USB Port on the PC. NOTE: The computer may recognize the new hardware and automatically install it for you. On some systems, you may have to manually install from the Drivers folder included in the RHT10 V5.6 Software that you downloaded. There are 2 USB drivers located here. If you recently purchased the RHT10 and are running on a Windows 64 bit system then run the setup for the USB Express Driver. If it is an RHT10 with a Serial Number stating with an 08 or 09 then you may need to install the USB Bulk driver.
5. Launch the RHT10 from the shortcut on your desktop and Connect and program the logger to your needs (i.e. Sample Points, Logger Name and Sample Rate)
If you still are experiencing troubles getting the unit up and running then please contact Technical Support at 781-890-7440 X200.
Thanks and Best Regards,

Permalink Reply by John Turner on September 7, 2011 at 8:30am Thanks Mike I will give it a go in the morning (it being late here in Australia). It may be that I have already had the datalogger in the usb port whilst trying to load the new drivers whereas you have the process around the other way. Hopefully that will sort it - thanks very much for your help.

I got it going on my wife's 32 bit windows computer and mine is 64 bit so this is obviously the problem. I have tried without success to get the express drivers going on the computer but no luck. If you have no further suggestions I will see if I can change the os back to 32 bit and then it should be all good!
Thanks again for ou assistance and if you have any ideas on 64 bit drivers please let me know.

Permalink Reply by John Douglas Poole on September 20, 2011 at 12:42am Hi Mike,
I have both the RHT10 and the newer RHT50, and am using them with a relatively new Dell Vostro 3500, running Windows 7. I've had no problems installing drivers. Rather, both software packages (v5.7 for the RHT10) have a lot of difficulty maintaining connections with their respective devices. The software often hangs, and I have to disconnect the device and plug it back in to get the software to wake-up again. I usually have to do this several times before I can successfully download data or reset a logger.
Also, the RHT10's software cannot seem to download a data set from the RHT10 containing 2000 samples or larger. The program craps out, with a "Datalogger MFC Application has stopped working" error message. Nor can it open a data file that's 1000 samples or larger in size. It craps out with the same message. The RHT50 software, by comparison, has no problems with downloading large samples once a connection has been established, or opening large files offline with the logger disconnected. But it still has problems maintaining a connection.
In the end, I can always eventually get everything done. But not without a whole lot of manual fussing about. I'm just posting this comment because I'm curious if you or any one else out there has seen this before.

If I understand correctly, the RHT10 is not working well with either v5.6 or v5.7 sw. However, the RHT50 is working fine with its sw. If this is correct, I suispect the RHT10 is defective. Please contact the Extech Returns Group, repair@extech.com or 781-890-7440 ext 210 for further assistance.

Permalink Reply by John Douglas Poole on September 20, 2011 at 4:41pm Hi Jamie,
Thanks for the reply. But no, actually, both the RHT10 and RHT50 have this problem. The program hangs up intermittently when using either device, and you have to remove the device and plug it back in to generate an interrupt, basically, and get the software to re-establish a connection. Also, my RHT10 S/W package can't view large data files that have been saved to disk, regardless of whether or not the RHT10 logger itself is connected.
I'm first going to try installing both packages on a different machine, and see if these errors still manifest themselves.
But thanks for the contact info!

Permalink Reply by M.C. Perna on October 18, 2011 at 2:10pm Hi Mike,
I was just given a couple of the RHT10 dataloggers for use at work and I'm having some issues getting them to work with the computers that I have been provided with. I am currently running Windows XP SP2 64-bit, which cannot change due to other devices being used with those machines. I couldn't find any specific data regarding whether or not this device works with that OS, but since it seems to be compatible with XP as well as 32 and 64-bit versions of Windows 7 I assumed it would work. It there an OS compatibility issue here or something I'm missing. Is there some sort of workaround I could use to get the device working with my computers? Any help is greatly appreciated.
Permalink Reply by Mike Oster on October 18, 2011 at 2:22pm Hello - Yes, this should work with the latest version 5.6:
Go to our website and download the latest version of the software, RHT10 V5.6, from the following link:
http://www.extech.com/instruments/software.asp
3. Once you have this downloaded you can run the Setup.Exe and follow the instructions of the command prompts to complete the install.
