Field Calibration or Verfication Of Your Thermal Imager 's Temperature Accuracy

There have been many inquiries on how one can verify that they're thermal imager is reflecting accurate temperatures in the field. There are two simple ways to do this:

- Create what is called a slush bath or simply put some crushed ice in a cup with some water, preferably a 50/50 ratio. At this time measure the temperature of the slush bath. The temperature reading should be 0 C /32 F +/- 2

- Another way to be verify the imager's temperature accuracy is with boiling water in which the temperature reading should be 100 C /212 F +/- 2

Most manufacturers suggest that an IR camera be serviced with a calibration check annually, like many other instruments. Nevertheless these two ways are simple verfication procedures that can be done periodically in the field.

Here are two links to great websites that have a plethora of informational tools, techniques ,training ,general information about infrared thermography, thermal imaging, the equipment, the applications, its limitations, and learning more about it.
